UTC Reading

UTC Reading
UTC Reading has been formed by a partnership between local education providers consisting of Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, Reading College and University of Reading, and industry sponsors. The project incorporated a major refurbishment of some existing buildings and a new building especially to accommodate an IT, Art and Music Centre.

 

The Pirbright Institute Pirbright

The Pirbright Institute, Pirbright
The new CL2 Containment Facility at the Pirbright Institute where LJJ were responsible for the M&E installation on a design and build basis including the medical gases and special laboratory ventilation. As well as the stand alone ventilation systems for the cryogenic storage rooms there were independent ventilation systems for each of the micro biological safety cabinets.

 

Royal Holloway Student Accommodation London

Royal Holloway Student Accommodation, London
Part of the Scape Framework this BREEAM excellent scheme comprises 621 student bedrooms across 56 townhouses, including an amenity block with lecture theatre and teaching spaces. The mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery is installed in the roof space of each town house to feed the supply and extract for all bathrooms, corridors, kitchens and communal areas.

 

Bognor Regis Secondary School

Bognor Regis Secondary School
LJJ Ltd was responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the mechanical and electrical services to the secondary school based on Bognor Regis Campus. It was ventilated using a mixed mode system of natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation the classrooms with natural ventilation utilised the soffit for night time cooling and were luminated with raft type light fittings with integral acoustic baffles.

 

Darwin Building, London

Darwin Building, London
A refurbishment project carried out with Wallis-Kier to replace central plant and refurbishment of classrooms, laboratories and toilets throughout the building. The main electrical switchboard to the Darwin Building was replaced along with new rising busbars and distribution equipment throughout. All the work was carried out whilst maintaining supplies to the laboratories, classrooms and plant.

 

Freemantles School, Woking

Freemantles School, Woking
This special needs school was completed by LJJ Ltd as a domestic sub-contract to Willmott Dixon. The project consisted of the installation of mechanical and electrical services including underfloor heating, natural ventilation via Monodraft roof mounted wind catchers, door access, intruder fire alarms and the internal areas benefited from natural daylight which was introduced into the building via Monodraft Sunpipes.

 

Meadway SEN School, Reading

Meadway SEN School, Reading
This special needs school was developed in conjunction with Willmott Dixon Construction as part of their supply chain strategy. All of the services were monitored and controlled via BMS including the CCTV, heating, access control and the renewable energy systems. As this is a special needs school many other features were included i.e. panic alarms, voice evacuation, UV lighting and soft play/sensory rooms.

 

Medical Research Block, Brighton

A negotiated 2-stage tender partnered with Willmott Dixon which carried on from the Medical Teaching Facility project on the same site. The mechanical and electrical services included lighting, power, fire alarms, CCTV, access systems, intruder alarms, data and voice equipment, air conditioning, ventilation, chilled water, LTHW, space heating and automated controls/BMS.

 

Medical Teaching Facility, Brighton

Medical Teaching Facility, Brighton
This prestigious project was carried out to a very high standard as a direct sub-contractor to Willmott Dixon. The project entailed the fitting out of a new lecture theatre, seminar rooms, common rooms, offices, P.C. Suite and Dissection suite. The mechanical and electrical services included lighting, power, fire alarms, CCTV, air conditioning, ventilation, chilled water, LTHW space heating and automatic controls/BMS.

 

Orpington College, Kent

Orpington College, Kent
Refurbishment of the 10-storey Tower block, consisting of staff rooms, classrooms and admin offices. The total floor area of approximately 5400m2 refurbished on a phased basis including the upgrade of the space heating via new steel panel radiators, local cooling to the Server Room, Reprographics, IT Manager’s room and Security Room and modifications to hot and cold water services in the WCs to suit new layouts.

 

Sylvia Young Theatre School, London

Sylvia Young Theatre School, London
The building was granted planning consent for change of use and has been completely refurbished to a performing arts/theatre school, with additional floors being installed to provide accommodation over the Basement, Ground and First to Fourth floors, with an Apartment on the fourth floor. The new Performing Arts/Theatre School comprises of basement, ground floor, first floor, second floor, third floor and fourth floor.

 

Southwark Child Development Centre, London

Southwark Child Development Centre, London
This child development centre was constructed in principle for children with special needs. Each floor was segregated to give each doctor’s practice their own consulting rooms, treatment rooms and facility for minor surgery. LJJ Ltd were responsible for the design development and installation of the mechanical and electrical services which included soft play areas.

 

East Berkshire College

East Berkshire College
A complex M&E programme in a 1970’s-built college with limited information about the existing services layout. LJJ installed the mechanical and electrical services into the Heart Space, connecting it to the site’s existing zoned plant rooms. This was a programme that involved an upgrade to all M&E services at the college’s construction block as part of a campus upgrade.

 

University Of West London

University Of West London
LJJ was responsible for reducing the University’s carbon emissions and operational costs. The power capacity was upgraded from 400amps to 600amps with the installation of a new transformer and low voltage (LV) section board.
