LJJ Making A Difference
LJJ are passionate about helping the community and supporting charities and ventures close to our hearts, actively participating in fundraising events and showing great team spirit in doing so. Not only does this help charities in need of the support, it helps build morale and give the team an overwhelming sense of giving. We are very proud to have such an enthusiastic team who willingly donate their time and money to good causes. LJJ take pride in our charity partnerships and our chosen charities to support this year are Butterwick Hospice, who we have supported for many years raising approximately £50k to date, and Zoe’s Place. We also continue to support other local charities and contribute to staff charity fundraising through our dress down Friday donations and other events.
In our combined donations to local charities, charity sponsorships and sports sponsorships LJJ have given over £1m since we formed in 2001.
Small Acts Big Impacts
LJJ and Electric Centre Stockton have completed what can only be called an SOS or Challenge Anaka project at Teesside Retail Park.
LJJ is a regular presence on the retail park and was recently approached by a charity called Inspiration, which is permanently based at the RTP, to see if LJJ could help them with an enormous project they wanted to create within the old management offices for autistic children who attend their therapy sessions.
LJJ was happy to accept the challenge of creating a sensory room within 24 hours and providing all labour and materials free of charge for such an important project, which would give so much back to the community’s end users.
Working directly with the sensory team, LJJ and other contractors began to make the necessary changes to the redundant office management space. LJJ lowered the ceilings and installed new lighting, all supplied by Electric Centre Stockton. Finally, painting the walls with calming colours came last before the final fit-out.
It has now become a specially designed space equipped with various sensory tools and activities to create a calming or stimulating environment for the children with sensory processing differences. The room is tailored to provide a safe space to regulate input and promote well-being. The difference this room will make for the children is phenomenal as Inspiration Therapies offers a range of therapy treatments for children, young people and adults who suffer from autism, mental health and was set up to help with long NHS waiting lists.

Women In Construction
The campaign 2021 Positive About Women in Construction has been championed by Bouygues UK for many years with them holding gold membership. LJJ has now been on site at Wornington with our supply chain partner BYUK for a few weeks and became heavily involved in supporting them where they could with the WIC campaign.
LJJ’s Richard Helm Operations Manager working with BYUK Social Values Manager was able to offer a work placement for 2 weeks to the WIC for a Document Controller.
The whole idea of being able to give young women a chance to be able to see and work on a live construction site proved very rewarding for Hewan who had always shown an interest in the construction industry but could never quite find the right way to break into an administrative role. Her induction got underway straight away with training for the position of Document Controller with Mary Owens CAD & IT Manager at our head office in Stockton. Hewan found the training to be informative and most helpful as she was able to take on the role straight away.
As the weeks came to an end Hewan showed excellent skills, great communication, attention to detail, and great interaction with the LJJ Team on site. All in all, it was a success for everyone involved. Richy knew that he wanted to be able to offer Hewan a full-time position with LJJ starting end of September if she was interested as she had made such a difference to the site as their DC and we are pleased to say she accepted.
We all hope to have Hewan onsite very soon at Wornington and look forward to helping her throughout her career with us. Schemes like these are so worthwhile and it has been a pleasure for everyone involved at LJJ to learn more about the WIC and how they make a difference to women who really want to be able to establish their careers in the construction industry.
Great North Run
Massive congratulations to our Scott Wilson, Lewis Reed, Charley Kirsop, David Rodley and Elliott Longstaff for completing the Great North Run on Sunday for charity.
Scott, Lewis and David all ran for the Teesside Hospice, Elliott ran it for Cancer Research UK and Charley ran for The Royal National Institute of Blind people.
All great charities and for great causes. Well done to you all and hope the legs are ok today.

LJJ Employees Raising Awareness
September has been a very busy month for LJJ employees in raising awareness and donations for charities close to their hearts.
Gemma Cann
Gemma completed a squat challenge over the month of September for a LJJ colleague who’s beautiful baby daughter was born with a very rare condition called Severe Combined Immunodeficieny (SCID) which affects 1 in 58,000 born.
Gemma was raising donations for the Bubble Foundation based at Great North Children’s Hospital who offer treatment to children with this condition and also do invaluable research into the condition to find more affective treatments and ultimately a cure.
Gemma started off with small reps but by the time the middle of September was here she was well on her way to achieving the target set.
LJJ are proud of her personal achievement and for raising awareness for such a rare condition found in new born children.

Lewis Reed
Lewis ran the London Marathon in Oct 2022 having waited since 2020 to do this life time goal due to COVID cancelling the event for 2 years.
Lewis completed the course in 5 hours 19 minutes running for his chosen charity Hearing Loss. This is an amazing achievement and everyone at LJJ are very happy to know that Lewis finished the course with no other injuries other than a few sore limbs.

Butterwick Partnership
LJJ continue to support Butterwick Hospice, a charity very close to our hearts. Butterwick is the largest independent hospice serving the area of the Tees Valley, County Durham, North Yorkshire and Wearside.
Baby Steps Partnership With Zoe’s Place
LJJ are proud to announce in 2025 their new Baby Steps Partnership with Zoe’s Place, a local charity based in Middlesbrough. Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice care for babies and children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and have been helping families for over 30 years.
10K Obstacle Course
LJJ Ltd took on the challenge and fought hard to raise money for Butterwick Hospice with a brutal 10k obstacle course taking place in Hamsterley Forrest. The challenge proved to be a fantastic team building exercise with many families in attendance to show their support despite the weather, making it a great day out whilst raising over £5,000 for a great cause.
Dragon Boat Race Stockton
LJJ Ltd were delighted to take up the opportunity to race in the Stockton Dragon Boat Race to raise some funds for a great charity which we have continued to support as regularly as we can. The event was a good team building exercise with many families there to show their support making it a wonderful day out whilst raising over £2,800 for a great cause.
LJJ Stockton Office Have That Friday Feeling
The LJJ Stockton Office started dress down Fridays to raise money for the Charity Sarah’s Hope, they raised a whopping £1000 for this charity but did not stop there. The team wanted to carry on helping charities and local fundraising ventures and continues to donate £100 a time to charities put forward by the LJJ team, donating approximately £500 a year.
Swapping Christmas Gifts For Charity Donations
It has been a challenging year for so many due to Covid, and charities have struggled with not receiving their usual support making it difficult for them to continue giving and carrying out their fantastic work. LJJ this year replaced their Christmas gifts with charity donations, in support of our clients, and donated to those charities close to ours and our client’s hearts. We are proud to have been able to donate a combined total of £20,000 split between the following charities: Bloodrun, Butterwick Hospice, Daisy Chain, First Love Foundation, Help for Heroes, Hope House Hospice, Myton Hospice, Shelter, Teesside Hospice, Wave for Change, WD Key 4 Life Appeal.
Ben Bailey
LJJ Ltd are delighted to announce that we will be sponsoring Ben Bailey (@Benbailey31 on Twitter) as he takes on the 2021 Alps Tour with hopes of securing a challenge tour card for the 2022 season. Ben joins a long list of young sports people LJJ have proudly supported over the years which highlights our values for promoting youth within all aspects of life and further compliments the 75 apprentices we have trained within our own industry. Jeff Stelling March For Men For Prostate Cancer UK
Congratulations to the LJJ Ltd team for completing the last stage of March for Men in support of Prostate Cancer UK. It was tough on the guys, some more than others with a few ropey moments along the way! Well done to all those involved raising a whopping £5k smashing their target of £3k.
Workshop Day At Hartlepool College
This month, LJJ partnered with our client GMI to host a DIY Workshop at Hartlepool College. The programme offers hands-on construction training to care leavers and individuals facing barriers to employment. These workshops teach essential DIY skills to those preparing to leave care or who have recently begun living independently.
