LJJ was responsible for the £5 million electrical installation scheme for the new-build, 90 bed five-star hotel, which also comprises of 24 apartments, retail stores, bar, restaurant, gym and spa along with a 175 seat theatre/cinema and four lane bowling alley.
Power supplies coming in to the site have been separated; one for the hotel and front of house, another for the retail units and apartments, with essential life safety systems having their own supply. There are two panels, each over 6m long with 105 sub mains cables, ranging from 630 mm down to 4 mm.
The complex fire alarm system consists of four fire panels fully programmed to provide wide-ranging cause and effect scenarios and comply with stringent Westminster fire regulations. One each in north and south locations; a repeater panel for the Fire and Rescue Services located in a dedicated firefighting staircase; and another used for disabled refuge. The system integrates with the smoke damper system and the BMS to shut down certain systems under certain circumstances and also interfaces with the access control system and the pager system to alert the hotel manager. This means a fire in one of the retail units would not trigger an evacuation of the entire hotel immediately, enabling a staged evacuation.
